Chris brings experience as CEO of several venture-funded start-ups. He co-founded Cooler, the world’s first carbon-neutral online shopping mall. At Red Brick Systems, he led the company from $1M to $40M in revenue and a successful IPO. He also helped to shape Brightware into a market leader in CRM. Previously, Chris was Vice President at Tandem Computers, where he established an industry-focused strategy for global telecommunication, led an international staff of 600, and managed revenue of over $330 million. Chris holds a BA in Economics from UC Santa Barbara and an MBA from UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business. He serves as Chairman for ICEsoft Technologies, Inc., a leader in commercial Open Source software.

He consults at the national policy level, and is a key contributor to the World Resources Institute’s standards on carbon emissions. He is an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota and a research fellow at Leiden University, Netherlands. Sangwon earned his PhD at Leiden University (cum laude) with a thesis entitled, “Materials and Energy Flows in Industry and Ecosystem Networks.” As a research associate at Carnegie Mellon University, he further researched LCA and Material Flow Analysis. He is a subject editor of the “International Journal of LCA” and “Handbook of Input-Output Economics for Industrial Ecology.” He also co-authored the books, “The Computational Structure of Life Cycle Assessment” and “Handbook on Life Cycle Assessment.”

He is lead developer of the
CoolClimate Calculator, an online tool that allows households and businesses to estimate their complete carbon footprints, compare their results to others, and develop personalized climate action plans to save money and greenhouse gas emissions. Versions of this tool have been adopted by the State of California, non-governmental organizations and communities throughout the United States. His primary research interests are industrial ecology, with an emphasis on life cycle assessment of products and services, behavioral psychology and climate policy. Mr. Jones holds an M.S. in Energy and Resources and an M.A. in Latin American Studies, both from UC Berkeley, and a B.A. from UC Santa Cruz.
