New tool empowers users to radically reduce embodied carbon in construction
The Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) tool launched in public beta version at Greenbuild today, gives the building industry a powerful means to take action on reducing embodied carbon emissions of building materials. Watch a brief video by Kate Simonen to learn how the ‘Burden of Proof Methodology‘ developed for EC3 by the Carbon Leadership Forum and implemented by C-Change labs now makes EPDs comparable for the first time.
Climate Earth partnered with the Carbon Leadership Forum and C-Change Labs to develop the Digital EPD, part of the CarbonCLARITY Suite. The Digital EPD enables all ready mix EPDs generated by Climate Earth customers to be immediately loaded into EC3. Standard PDF based EPDs must be manually entered or discovered by C-Change and then be ‘scraped’ by custom software to extract the relevant data.
EC3 is a free, open-access tool, that allows architects, engineers, owners, construction companies, building material suppliers and policy makers to easily evaluate and reduce embodied carbon emissions from construction materials, effectively empowering them to reduce embodied carbon within buildings at scale.
